not so secret way to my dude’s heart, plantains. i’ve never messed with plantains at home, but we love ordering them when we see them on a menu… after a trip to jungle jim’s, (they aren’t THAT exotic, but i guess we felt more adventurous just being in that food playhouse!) we experimented last night with a simple recipe. peeled using the recommended plantain peeling method: cut off each end and sliced through the skin 5 times, then soaked in warm water for a few minutes. not quite sure why these banana looking things need to be treated different than any other banana looking things i’ve ever peeled, but i bet i can look that up..
sliced thin and dropped into hot oil. drained on a towel for a sec, then sprinkled with lime zest, salt and cayenne.
you should do this at home! this was the best tasting treat i have enjoyed in a while! and besides setting up a mini deep fryer at home, they were EASY.
another thing you should do: take a trip to jungle jim’s! i always forget how much fun!
